<<  -- 3 --  David Thompson    SPEAKING FOR ITSELF

-------------------------------

The central lento moderato is, necessarily, gentler and more restrained, with a charming Celtic accent in some of its themes, that gives the surrounding seascape some geographical identity. The high spirits of the finale culminate in a satisfying drawing together of loose ends in a triumphant martial conclusion.

David Lloyd-Jones' previous discs in this impressive and very affordable cycle, have all won much praise. The present disc maintains these exalted standards. At its super-bargain price, no Baxian should hesitate to acquire it, and lovers of late romantic music who have yet to make Bax's acquaintance will surely be richly rewarded for such a modest indulgence in impulse-buying.
