<< -- 12 -- Roderic Dunnett LUCIANO CHAILLY

Luciano Chailly died on Christmas Eve, 2002, aged 82. His lasting place
in musical history is doubly assured : not just by his vast array of
challenging, elegant, sympathetic and expressionistic compositions
in so many musical media,
but as father to three of Italy's most engaging and successful artistic
personalities. Each of them followed some aspect of his career.
Of his daughters, Floriana became a leading RAI and independent
Radio and Television producer. Cecilia is an internationally acclaimed harpist.
His son, the internationally renowned conductor Riccardo Chailly, is Music
Director of Amsterdam's Concertgebouw Orchestra and of the vibrant
new Giuseppe Verdi Choir and Orchestra of Milan.

Years of maturity : Luciano with Riccardo, by now an acclaimed international conductor
