-------------------------------

And in the final section, Mother and Child, before the last great cantiga from Alfonso's compilation, one concerning the Virgin's intersession to help a troubled mother and her sick child, there is an Egyptian lullaby, sung again by Hayet Ayad, this time in Arabic [listen -- track 18, 0:00-1:15].

The performers are superb -- the Boston Camerata under the direction of guitarist and vocalist Joel Cohen, and the Sharq Arabic Music Ensemble, directed by Karim Nagi. In this CD you would have a recital to provide stimulating seasonal refreshment and an intriguing expansion to musical horizons -- the sort of Christmas gift I would intend to give, but be reluctant to part with!
