Barbara Divis, Priti Gandhi and Lisa Agazzi were dramatically interesting and vocally impressive as the Three Ladies.

Stacy Fraser, Silvia Wen and Diana Tash were diminutive, clear-voiced Genies, while Richard Dorn and Joseph Hu were ardent priests and Kenneth Morris and James Scott Sikon were robust sounding Armed Men.

Christoph Perick conducted with infectious verve. His rendition had rhythmical consistency and he never let the tension sag. As a result, the San Diego Symphony responded with elegant playing and well balanced harmonies. Under the direction of Timothy Todd Simmons, the chorus gave a solid vocal background to the opera's fantasy world. Surprisingly, this production was even more fun the second time around!
