Yvonne Kenny and Iain Burnside
at London's Wigmore Hall,

Yvonne Kenny's new recital programme, One Touch of Venus, exists in that difficult shadow world between cabaret entertainment and full-blown recital. Kenny's raison d'être was 'to present a song recital which was more adventurous and more varied than the usual format -- more like and entertainment or a show'. But few shows include songs by Reynaldo Hahn, Robert Schumann, Ernest Chausson, Henry Purcell or George Frideric Handel.

It helps, of course, that Kenny has for her accompanist the multi-talented Iain Burnside who, as a broadcaster as well as an accompanist, is adept at assembling programmes.
