Pierson flooded the hall with gorgeous sound as she created the dream-scene of the wandering woman who, in searching for her lover, questions what was and what is to be. Pierson evoked the foreboding of the forest and her voice reflected the shimmering moonlight. Her dramatic tones conveyed the mystery, the beauty and the emotional drive of this fascinating piece.

This was an unusual concert, full of thought-provoking music written during the last one hundred years. In 1947, Arnold Schoenberg said, 'The minds of musicians and audiences have to mature before they can comprehend my music.' Perhaps that time has come and we can, at last, venerate this unique composer along with those who came before and after him. Contemporary music is finding new and larger audiences in the current millennium.
