An Absorbing Day

JULIAN JACOBSON reports on the fourteenth
Beethoven Intercollegiate (Senior) Piano Competition

The 2006 Beethoven Piano Society of Europe's annual Intercollegiate Piano Competition took place on 17 December 2006 (Beethoven's birthday) in a new venue for us, the Bluthner Piano Centre in Mayfair, London UK. We were lucky to have such a fine and central venue, even though the acoustic was somewhat dry. In fact it was fascinating to hear how different pianists rose to the challenge of the acoustic, some of them managing to bind the textures together more successfully than others.

The Jury included the eminent pianist Peter Frankl with Malcolm Troup and Angela Brownridge who both boldly stepped in at the last minute replacing jurors who were unwell.
