This Wellington-based orchestra works together with sister arts bodies throughout New Zealand's central and lower North Island. During 2007 it performed for the the Wellington Orpheus Choir (Handel's Messiah and Music from the Movies), Royal New Zealand Ballet (Swan Lake and Cinderella), National Business Review New Zealand Opera (Lucia di Lammermoori and Turandot) and Wellington Film Festival (Silent Movie).

Another 2007 highlight during VWO's July tour was Vivaldi's Four Seasons, suppported by Footnote Dance Company (NZ). Marc Taddei, orchestra leader Matthew Ross and members of the FDC (NZ) collaborated with the on-stage orchestra in a presentation; also judged valid from a choreographic perspective.

Next 9 November (2008), VWO, the Orpheus Choir and violist Donald Maurice offer a concert remembering the 70th Anniversary of Kristallnacht; the two works are Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem and The Holcaust Requiem by 54-year-old, Odessa born Boris Pigovat, now resident in Israel.
