Boris Goldovsky

The conductor, opera teacher and radio announcer Boris Goldovsky was born in Moscow on 7 June 1908 and died in Brookline, Massachusetts, USA on 15 February 2001, aged 92. During his long life, Goldovsky was director of the New England Conservatory of Music's Opera Department, founder of the Goldovsky Opera Theater (originally the New England Opera Theater) and director of the Tanglewood Music Center Opera Program. He entertained Met Opera broadcast listeners with illustrated interval talks and interviews, and was an early advocate of the now common practice of opera performances in English translation.
