Washington goes National
USA's 5th largest opera company - Washington Opera - is to be known as the National Opera. American Congress passed a resolution on 6 June 2000 to grant the new name. Performances continue at Washington DC's Kennedy Center, and Plácido Domingo continues as Artistic Director.
