Teresa Sterne
Former director of Nonesuch Records (1965-1979) and record producer Teresa Sterne died on 10 December 2000, aged 73, from Lou Gehrig's disease. Sterne was a heroine of the music world, building Nonesuch into one of the most adventurous record companies. The Explorer series of recordings introduced music from countries such as Bali and Peru, and influenced even the rock world. Sterne discovered artists working in contemporary music, issued recordings of little known works by composers such as Busoni, Schoenberg and Stravinsky, and promoted vernacular and contemporary music, including works by Elliott Carter and George Crumb.
