Fallen composer
Thieves attempted to steal a lifesize bronze statue of British composer Edward Elgar during the early hours of 24 March 2002 from the centre of the town of Malvern, Worcestershire, UK. The vandals, who must have exhibited great strength, cut a stainless steel bolt fixing the statue to a railing, so that they could rock the heavy statue backwards and forwards. The bronze has been damaged, and the composer will be missing from his customary position whilst he is returned to the foundry in London for repairs.
