Vlado Perlemuter

The Russian/Lithuanian born pianist Vlado Perlemuter died on 4 September 2002, aged 98.

Born at Kovno (formerly in Russia - now Kaunas in Lithuania) on 26 May 1904, Perlemuter moved to Paris with his family when very small, and studied with Moritz Moszkowski and then with Alfred Cortot at the Paris Conservatoire. He played all Ravel's piano music at two public concerts in 1929 in the presence of the composer, escaped from the Nazis into Switzerland in 1943, and after the war, taught at the Paris Conservatoire for over 25 years, developing a reputation as a great teacher. Nimbus recorded his entire repertoire, without editing, and he recorded much of Chopin's piano music for the BBC.
