Carlos Kleiber

Conductor Carlos Kleiber died on 13 July 2004, aged 74, following a long illness. He was buried in Slovenia, his mother's native country. Kleiber, who lived near Munich, was the son of the Austrian-Argentinean conductor Erich Kleiber.

Born in Berlin on 3 July 1930, Carlos grew up in Argentina, started his career in 1952 at the La Planta Theatre and was first introduced to European audiences with a 1953 appearance at Munich's Gärtnerplatz Theatre. He has conducted some of the finest orchestras, all over the world, and was considered to be one of the greatest conductors of the twentieth century.
