Handel in Mendoza

American conductor David Handel has been named Music Director of the Orquesta Sinfónica UN Cuyo in Mendoza, Argentina, effective immediately. Handel's commitment to Orquesta Sinfónica UN Cuyo will work concurrently with his current positions as Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra of Bolivia and Principal Conductor of American Voices.

Handel comments: 'This represents an important opportunity to apply many of the successful initiatives made with the National Symphony of Bolivia, reaching an ever broader public, working on the structure of the institution and thereby developing higher artistic standards and becoming ever more relevant to the general public and cultural life of the region. The UN Cuyo Symphony Orchestra is a very capable ensemble, with many outstanding musicians. Historically, it has played an important role in the musical life of one the largest cultural centers in Latin America. I have every expectation that we will achieve great things in Mendoza and throughout the region.'
