Great Delicacy
MIKE WHEELER listens to

Liszt, Schumann and Brahms
Liszt's symphonic poem Les Préludes opened the Hallé Orchestra's concert (Assembly Rooms, Derby, UK, 13 April 2011) and got the most uniformly successful performance. The central pastoral episode was handled with great delicacy, and the ending was full-blooded without lapsing into bombast.
