The Rivoli String Quartet,
heard by MIKE WHEELER

 

Two Viennese classics framed a twentieth-century English one in Derby Chamber Music's final concert of the season, played by the Rivoli String Quartet (Multi-Faith Centre, Derby University, 15 April 2011).

The group's immaculate unison at the start of Mozart's E flat Quartet, K428, made you sit up immediately and take notice, particularly of their rich but clear tone. There was a sense of gentle but firm movement in the andante, and quick spirited accounts of the minuet and finale, laced with plenty of energy and wit...
