Sinfonia Viva's summer schools' residency projects have achieved quite a track record of creating memorable evenings out of historical events with local connections. This year it was the turn of the Luddites -- not today's technophobes but the original uprisings of 1811, when new factories were starting to put cottage textile workers out of business. Beginning in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire, marauding gangs of 'Ned Ludd' followers responded by smashing the factory looms, risking the death penalty in the process...
