This CD set was recorded in June 2011 on the Cavaillé-Coll organ at the Ste Trinité in Paris - the organ and church with which Olivier Messiaen was associated from 1931 until 1992. It has been released by the Dutch foundation Promotion de la musique d'Olivier Messiaen et ses contemporains and produced by D E Versluis Classical Music Productions.
The release deals primarily with Messiaen's activities during the 1930s, the period immediately following his graduation from the Conservatoire (where he studied from 1919 until 1930) and during which he married Claire Delbos.
An important impetus behind the conception of this project was our realisation of the comparative obscurity, both in the Netherlands and France, of Delbos. She was a great violinist, but also left a number of compositions, including songs and works for organ. The organ works which are still available are performed by Anton Doornhein and are discussed in the booklet by music theoretician Gijsbert Kok.
