Exquisitely Floated

Soprano Catrin Woodruff joins
the Derby Concert Orchestra,
heard by MIKE WHEELER

Isn't it odd how one piece becomes popular while another, just as good by the same composer, doesn't? Mendelssohn's overture Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage deserves to be played at least as often as The Hebrides. So a cheer for Derby Concert Orchestra and conductor Jonathan Trout for reminding us what a superb work it is, especially in a performance generating as much excitement as this one did (St Peter's Church, Littleover, Derby, UK, 20 October 2012)...
