It is clear from the work on this CD that Christopher Shultis is close to the experimental minimalists and to John Cage, about whom he has written in a wide range of scholarly articles over the last fifteen years. He has been one of the associate editors of the academic journal Perspectives of New Music since 1999. The works represented on this CD date from 2000 to 2007, and though he was born in 1957, it was not until he was appointed Regents' Professor of Music at the University of New Mexico in 1980 that he began taking composition more seriously. So these can justifiably be described as 'early works'...
