Joachim Raff's work has been in the shadows for far too long and Chandos has now entered the fray with a complete set of symphonies planned and with the Second first off the delivery line. This is perhaps one of the composer's least known symphonies lasting just under thirty-five minutes but cogently structured and with a wealth of melody. It marks the beginning of a rich creative period for the composer which continued with the third and fourth symphonies and other chamber works...
