Searing Performances

J S Bach's 'St John Passion'
from Music of the Baroque
conducted by Jane Glover,
enjoyed by BARBARA SEALOCK

Mere words can hardly do justice to the majesty and grandeur of the Saint John Passion, conducted in searing performances by Jane Glover in Chicago's Music of the Baroque season finale [Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, USA, 19 May 2013]. The epic production concluded Glover's celebratory tenth anniversary year as music director, leading the ensemble with characteristic perfection.

Precision, power and praise have distinguished MOB's performances since the renowned British conductor joined the Chicago ensemble in 2002, and this program was no exception.

From the brooding and mysterious opening bars of Bach's monumental work to the culminant chorale of hope, the Passion impels the most somber, heartfelt response...
