Seven composers are featured in what is a splendidly recorded recital of small-scale pieces ranging from Lionel Sainsbury's Soliloquy for solo violin, the most substantial single movement on the disc, to mixed ensembles of four and five players. Sainsbury lives in a quiet village in Oxfordshire UK, a fine pianist and prolific composer whose Cello Concerto has recently been recorded by Raphael Wallfisch for the Dutton Epoch label. Soliloquy is energetically played here by Vit Mužík, and is a tour de force in which the violin's natural tonal focus is exploited with an impressive virtuosity, suggesting it to be a piece magnificently suited to any competition for solo violinists./p>
