Mendelssohn from Laura

impresses

'Their playing is musical to the very core and their technique flawless.'

Mendelssohn: Complete works for piano and violoncello - Ferenc Vizi and Laura Buruiana. © 2013 Coviello Classics

Mendelssohn's music is often associated with youth, exuberance, and a particular brand of unrivaled liveliness. Whether or not this distinct character is a product of the work itself is debatable, but nevertheless, performers throughout the ages have made such unbridled vigor an indelible aspect of the composer's style.

Several recordings have been made of the complete cello works, many of which are high-spirited interpretations that represent Mendelssohn as a Mozartian disciple, albeit with an unprecedented joie de vivre -- pleasant but shallow. This new interpretation by Ferenc Vizi and Laura Buruiana offers something fresh, which escapes the all-too-common flippancy and capriciousness one has come to expect from recordings of this music...
