Nico Muhly's opera 'Two Boys',

Since taking office in 2006, Peter Gelb, General Manager of the Metropolitan Opera, has turned each season into a paean to the new. The Met's artistic roster and repertoire are overrun by new directors who are non-native to opera, directing works that are either newcomers to the Met stage or contemporary works making their first appearance in New York City. Last February, when the brochure for the 2013-2014 season arrived in the mail, I saw all the usual suspects. However, the one opera that encapsulated all the standard aspects of Gelb's Met was Two Boys...
