A wide-ranging recital by
Janey Miller and Susie Summers,
heard by MIKE WHEELER

 

Two of Britten's works for oboe formed the centrepiece of Janey Miller and Susie Summers' wide-ranging recital (The VoiceBox, Derby, UK, 10 November 2013).

After Telemann's A minor Sonata, projected with a delightful mixture of sprightliness and elegance, Janey Miller switched to cor anglais for four of Vaughan Williams' Six Studies in English Folksong, eloquently phrased and with a neatly judged pay-off to the final number.

By coincidence Susie Summers chose to play Frank Bridge's Rosemary, as did Richard Hodges the previous week...
