Holiday Ritual

Christmas music from the
Cleveland Orchestra and Chorus,
heard by SUZANNE TORREY

Each December, the Cleveland Orchestra and Chorus — often with the addition of other local vocal groups — gifts the community with a present of two hours of glorious holiday music. Severance Hall [Cleveland, Ohio, USA] is beautifully lit and decorated, inside and out, while the concert space itself is dressed in garland and white lights draped in swags along the boxes and dress circle overhangs while two Christmas trees sit in the small rounded box areas flanking the stage. Along the proscenium arch is a cut out resembling the bottom of a huge Christmas tree bedecked with gold garland and large ornaments hanging over the stage. I must mention the amazing light show that is a part of these concerts every year: it is, quite simply, spectacular...
