La bohème in HD from The Met,
appreciated by MARIA NOCKIN

 

On the evening of 4 April 2014, Latvian soprano Kristine Opolais sang the title role of Madama Butterfly at the Metropolitan Opera. At 7:30am the next morning General Manager Peter Gelb called to ask if she could sing Mimì in La bohème in the high definition transmission to theaters around the world that very afternoon. She knew the role, but had never done it at the Met, so she said 'no'. Five minutes later, she called back to say 'yes'...
