Music originating by the Rio de la Plata had a late twentieth century international efflorescence through the efforts of Latvian violinist Gidon Kremer and French-American cellist Yo Yo Ma. In 1996 Kremer produced Homage a Piazzolla (Nonesuch); a year later (1997) Yo Yo Ma followed with Soul of the Tango (Sony Classics) and by 1998 Kremer weighed in with Tango Ballet (Teldec) recorded at Casino Zögernitz, Vienna, Austria.
