Rampant Imagination Viola de Hoog plays J S Bach - heard by ALICE McVEIGH '... a cellist and an artist of utter integrity ...'

I suspect that Viola de Hoog is rather a determined person, as well as a thoughtful, imaginative and powerful artist.

Why? Well, it's because I string along with János Starker's point of view that music betrays the artist's character. In a master class at Indiana he told us cellists (rather rudely, but hey, that was part of his charm) that he could tell, while listening to us mess about with the Rococo, the Dvořák etc whether we were happy, whether we were being bullied, whether we had just fallen in love — and lots of other things...
