Lyadov and Tchaikovsky from Leticia Moreno,
Yuri Temirkanov and the St Petersburg Philharmonic

Poor old Anatoly Lyadov, apparently condemned to be forever known as the man who didn't get round to composing The Firebird. If the performance of his short tone-poem Kikimora by the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Yuri Temirkanov (Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, UK, 6 November 2014) helped redress the balance a little, well and good. Kikimora is a Russian fairy-tale sprite, not as malevolent as Baba Yaga (the subject of another of Lyadov's orchestral pieces) but still capable of mischief...
