Concerto - Venice: The Golden Age. © 2014 harmonia mundi sa

This is a stunning recording which anyone appreciating Baroque music would love to own. The Concerto by Uri Rom (born 1969) is a quasi-pastiche of a Venetian concerto, for oboe, strings and continuo. Also featured are the famous Marcello oboe concerto (which has been attributed to both Marcellos over time), a Vivaldi concerto for strings, three other Vivaldi concerti, including the well-known C major oboe concerto, a sinfonia by Giovanni Porta and an overture by Carlo Tessarini.

The Uri Rom work is a very welcome addition to the oboe concerto repertoire and I couldn't believe that I was listening to anything but a true Venetian baroque concerto...
