Here are Baroque sonatas and five concert pieces from four composers whose lifetimes straddled the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries: Bach, Couperin, Eccles and Handel.

They're spearheaded by Jeremy McCoy, Assistant Principal double bass with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and teacher at the Manhattan School of Music and Columbia University.

Seven collegues complete MSR Classics' ensemble.

McCoy observes that baroque sonatas originally composed for the viola da gamba are among the most suitably adaptable works in the double bass's largely borrowed solo repertoire...
