Among the torrent of compositions accredited to J S Bach (1685-1750), one finds a substantial amount of keyboard works, among which are the so called 'French Suites'. These commanded a special place in Bach's affections, and among his canon of keyboard works they are still held in high esteem, the reasons being several. Besides containing music as profound and poetic as any written by the composer, the textures of the French Suites have a lucidity and effervescence that reflects a move towards the 'galant' style popular among Bach's contemporaries...
