<< -- 2 -- Rex Harley CONTRASTING STYLES
Another fascinating booklet is that which comes with Music from the Time of Tilman Riemenschneider (c1460-1531). Riemenchneider was one of the most accomplished sculptors of his day, producing both in stone and fruitwood figures of the most amazing refinement and delicacy. He was also actively involved in the political and social upheavals of his day and, late in life was tortured for his stance during the Peasant's War by the local prince-bishop.
Not all the music on this recording has the refinement of Riemanschneider's work. The wonderfully brash and aggressive Zenner, greiner, wie gefelt dir das drops us straight into the middle of a peasant brawl:
'Scolding and bragging, how do you like that?
I'll sit at your table
and kiss your wife on the lips.
How do you like that?'
