<<  -- 4 --  Robert Anderson    SENSUOUS LYRICISM

-------------------------------

Mercifully the little boy is not adopted by the emperor and, having survived all the wizardry of Paris at its most inventive, can go back to his modest family and again observe grandfather at his potting [watch and listen -- chapter 3, 45:30-46:30]. If it is not always clear which character is which when performing inside a jar, the explanatory supplements show singers at their natural size and in their everyday persona. It would have been indiscreet of Chaudet to give away all the computer secrets that have gone to the making of this Rossignol, but we see enough to marvel at their ingenuity and to rejoice that for the most part they enhance the fairy-tale atmosphere of the original.
