Los Angeles Opera presented Jenufa in the Mackerras and Tyrell edition at The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on 30 September 2007. The tall, narrow sets and sharply raked stage originally designed for the Metropolitan Opera were by Frank Philipp Schlössmann. Max Keller's strong chiaroscuro lighting for the Met was recreated in Los Angeles by Brian Gale. Both sets and lighting helped to underscore the character of the work in Olivier Tambosi's stark, verismo staging.

The Los Angeles Opera Orchestra conducted by Music Director James Conlon, starred in this performance just as much as any of the leading singers. Both the drama of the piece and its folk quality were evident. The solos, particularly the strings, were emotionally affecting, while the winds and percussion were handled with stunning precision.
