Artistic Director John Massaro brought Puccini's score to life with a full blooded, incisive rendition that brought out the romantic fervor of the piece. His chorus sang with a strong well-blended sound. Although the orchestra was not large, the playing was accurate and the sound well balanced. This was indeed an auspicious beginning for the new Phoenix Metropolitan Opera.
