-------------------------------

The wedding bells will soon be ringing, and every hanger-on will be transformed into a welcome guest. There will be a notable write-up of the occasion in the local gazette, so that Rossini's curtain can come down both joyously and punctually.

The Madrid cast has proved itself exemplary, and both chorus and orchestra have responded magnificently to the sheer champagne of the young Rossini with its doubtless far-flung cork. Alberto Zedda on the rostrum is of course more heard than seen, a main delight of televised opera. If only Bayreuth carries such matters to their logical conclusion, the aural Zedda is certainly impressive enough to efface the visual.
