The eponymous cycle of piano pieces evokes characters and incidents from F Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby, while The Lake Isle is a rhapsody for oboe and piano inspired by W B Yeats' poem The Lake Isle of Innisfree. By contrast, the Piano Quintet is a three-movement piece without a stated programmatic source.
