The American organist Carlo Curley was born on 24 August 1952. His showmanship and extensive touring gave a misleading impression of his capabilities. Technique he had in plenty and, despite some melodrama, he played standard repertory as well. On balance, his career has assisted the serious organ world.
Carlo Curley, dubbed by a US newspaper as 'the Pavarotti of the organ', died on 11 August 2012 in Melton Mowbray, England, aged fifty-nine.
