Margaret Juntwait

American radio broadcaster Margaret Juntwait was born on 18 March 1957 and grew up in New Jersey, becoming interested in choral music and studying at the Manhattan School of Music to be an operatic lyric soprano.

She chose to give up a career in opera in order to bring up her three children, but later she began working as a classical music radio announcer, first at WNYC-FM in New York City from 1991, and then at Metropolitan Opera from 2000, initially as backup to Peter Allen. When Allen retired in 2004, Juntwait took over as host until 2014. In 2006, she became a full time employee at the Met, announcing all programmes on Sirius Satellite Radio's Metropolitan Opera Radio channel.

She also worked as an actress.

Margaret Juntwait died on 3 June 2015 of ovarian cancer, aged fifty-eight.
