Yo-Yo Ma in Taiwan
Paris-born cellist Yo-Yo-Ma visited Taiwan, beginning a week-long visit on 10 May with a masterclass in Taipei, during which he explained that students should draw energy from all the sounds around them, focussing it on their instruments. Ma, born 1955 to Taiwanese parents, took his Appalachian Journey project - a combination of American fiddle tunes and chamber music - to Taipei's National Concert Hall on 11 May.
