Jean-Pierre Rampal
The death of flautist Jean-Pierre Rampal on 20 May draws attention to his earlier worldwide reputation as a player and editor of early music for the flute. He was for a time principal at the Paris Opera, and later Professor at the Paris Conservatoire. He founded various wind groups, besides extensive touring as a soloist. His book Ancient Music for the Flute from the late 1950s was a valuable resource tool.
