Welcome
As the range of classical music content on the internet widens, we can look forward to an increasing variety of gateways to this information ... magazines, portals, information sites ... many offering their own unique perspective. For an insight into this expanding world, look at Canada's La Scena Musicale, which is now collating links to classical music news articles from an increasing number of sources worldwide. American pianist, marketing expert, entrepreneur and Music & Vision contributor John Bell Young is creating a new online magazine The Muse. In Bell Young's own words, 'its content will not dwell on reviews, but on substantive critical issues. We are more interested in these with regard to the world of classical music, its affiliated businesses, its injustices, its poseurs, its greatest if not always its most famous talents, and much more.' In Gdansk, Tomasz Trzebiatowski has created Melom@n - portal muzyczny - a new classical music portal site in Polish, providing daily CM news, CD reviews, repertoire lists, radio and TV schedules. A press and web review section is promised shortly. In the UK, Stephen Pettitt, known for his work as a critic with The Times, has created a web site devoted to daily reviews of the performing arts. TheArtsPages.com is online now, with an official launch date of 17 July 2000. Pettitt's service intends to fill the gap caused by the decline of arts reporting in the daily press. We wish John, Tomasz and Stephen every success in these new ventures.
