Prevost death

Following a long battle with cancer, Canadian composer André Prevost died on 27 January 2001, at home in Montreal, aged 67.

Prevost came from a family of musicians, and his studies at the Conservatoire de Musique de Montreal resulted in the award of a first prize. He later taught at the University of Montreal.

Works include Fantasmes (1963) (performed on the day that John F Kennedy was assassinated, and later dedicated to the US President's memory) and the cantata Terre des Hommes, the inauguration song commissioned for Expo 67.
