Ovidiu Badila (1962-2001)
Romanian double bass player Ovidiu Badila died in Trieste on 27 March 2001, aged just 39. Badila was born in Constanta in 1962, studied in Bucharest and then emigrated to the west, studying further with Celibidache, Enzo Ferrari, Wolfgang Güttler, Franco Petracchi and Jean Marc Rollez. He became an expert in the music of Giovanni Bottesini, and won various competitions, including Reims in 1988 and San Sebastian in 1989.
