Christine Brewer's new recording, Great Strauss Scenes, opens with a blood-curdling curse! With no orchestral introduction at all, Brewer sings Sei verflucht ('Curse you!') at full voice. I'm told this sequence provided a unique opening at the live concerts in Atlanta. Audience members were said to have immediately sat up straight when they heard it...
