Handel's 'Messiah' from Derby Cathedral
Derby Cathedral Choir was on confident form under conductor Peter Gould in their now regular biennial performance of Handel's Messiah (Derby Cathedral, Derby, UK, 11 December 2010).
There was an exciting build-up of weight and momentum in For Unto Us a Child is Born; His Yoke is Easy danced along, there was clarity in the fugal textures of And With his Stripes, all topped off by one of the most exuberant performances of Hallelujah I've heard.
The soloists were a variable group...
